Summary

What do you do when the man of your dreams comes with two angry kids and a crazy ex-wife?

Marie Aaron never meant to fall for a guy with two kids。 And she certainly never meant to fall for a guy with two kids and a cruel, manipulative ex-wife—who sets out to make Marie’s life a living hell, using the kids as pawns。

Now Marie is up against a formidable force: two teenage girls who’ve been programmed to treat her as the enemy。 With their mother pulling the strings, the kids launch a full-scale rebellion—and Marie finds herself embroiled in a fierce custody battle, with everything on the line。 She loves James, but can she find her place in his family? Or will she be the wedge that drives them apart?

Deftly weaving humor with heartache, Aaron tells the true tale of her crusade for stepmotherhood: a man worth fighting for, a villainous ex, and two confused kids who are acting like assholes。

An engaging, honest, and funny memoirAaron is a very talented writer。 I felt like I really knew the people in this book。 Not just the primary players, but those in the periphery。 Couldn't put it down。 Didn't want it to end。 Hope to hear more from this author! Marie Aaron’s debut memoir is outstanding! She is a gifted storyteller, and she grants the reader a refreshingly honest take on the joys and heartbreaking difficulties that one inevitably experiences on the path to stepmotherhood。 Of course, a vengeful ex-wife ensures that Marie’s road is bumpier than most。 This book shares the highs and lows, and shows that humor, forgiveness, and, above all, love, are what matter in the end。 I laughed out loud, I cried, and I found myself cheering for Marie an Marie Aaron’s debut memoir is outstanding! You know a book is a great book when you want to finish it to know what will happen next but you also do not want to finish it because the story will come to an end。 This is one of those books。 I loved every chapter in this book。 It opened my eyes to the world of being a stepmom and having the courage to keep going in the name of love。 Bravo!

Marie writes about the joys & perils of step-parenting with honesty, wit, and skill。 She has crafted a narrative of the life that blooms from loving someone with children, but also of navigating that which blooms, be it fragrant or toxic。 Beyond learning to become a bonus parent, The Kids are Acting Like Assholes, examines friendship, family, career, and life's progress with an expert eye for finding humor & beauty in the mundane as well as the extraordinary。 I truly felt invited into the narrat Marie writes about the joys & perils of step-parenting with honesty, wit, and skill。 She has crafted a narrative of the life that blooms from loving someone with children, but also of navigating that which blooms, be it fragrant or toxic。 Beyond learning to become a bonus parent, The Kids are Acting Like Assholes, examines friendship, family, career, and life's progress with an expert eye for finding humor & beauty in the mundane as well as the extraordinary。 I truly felt invited into the narrative, and couldn't wait to get back to my wine & the next chapter。 It was as good as a long talk with an old friend with all the laughter, tears, and "oh no she didn't!" that goes with。 I would highly recommend spending some time with Marie & the kids, even if they are acting like assholes。 。。。more

LOVE THIS BOOK。。。It will have you staying up late laughing and/or crying。 I could not put this down once I started。 This story is real life, all the ups and downs that come along with loving, and come along with family - something everyone can relate to。 I am sure it will resonate with anyone with step children, but also it will really resonate with anyone living in the SF Bay Area。 It almost reads like a modern day Tales of the City。 I am really sad I finished it so fast, it leaves me wanting m LOVE THIS BOOK。。。It will have you staying up late laughing and/or crying。 I could not put this down once I started。 This story is real life, all the ups and downs that come along with loving, and come along with family - something everyone can relate to。 I am sure it will resonate with anyone with step children, but also it will really resonate with anyone living in the SF Bay Area。 It almost reads like a modern day Tales of the City。 I am really sad I finished it so fast, it leaves me wanting more! 。。。more

A brave woman, navigating relationships with the man she loves and his kids gets a lot more complicated when his crazy ex (no, she really is) releases contempt and chaos after abandoning her children years earlier。 Hysterical and heart wrenching。 A must read from an exciting new writer!

A heartfelt, raw, and refreshingly honest look at relationships with family and friends, woven together in a captivating personal story that is at times laugh out loud hilarious and at other times brutally devastating。 I could not put this book down。

I read this book late into the night, while walking on the sidewalk trying not to knock over other people, and when I was supposed to be doing other things。 Couldn't put it down。 I was rooting for the success of Marie, her husband, and the kids。 I was IRL stewing over the destructive behavior of some of the adults。 I was struck by the fact that some of the most intense battles in our lives occur in backdrops we all kind of recognize: school auditoriums, dinner tables, church communities, parking I read this book late into the night, while walking on the sidewalk trying not to knock over other people, and when I was supposed to be doing other things。 Couldn't put it down。 I was rooting for the success of Marie, her husband, and the kids。 I was IRL stewing over the destructive behavior of some of the adults。 I was struck by the fact that some of the most intense battles in our lives occur in backdrops we all kind of recognize: school auditoriums, dinner tables, church communities, parking lots。 Through Aaron's writing you really feel the heartbreaking vulnerability and frustration of the rough times, but also share in the victories and learn to cherish the zings of excitement and pride。 Ultimately, this book is about love and joy -- I totally loved it。 。。。more
